Is Odysseus the first backpacker in the world?
It sounds weird, but if you think about it, you will realise that the genius king of Ithaca, the leading figure of Odyssey and Iliad, is the first documented traveller in the world history. He started and completed his mythical journey from the Ionian Sea. This was not coincidence; the first Greeks immigrate to Australia with origins from the Ionian Islands.
An event full of memories, experiences and reminiscences with the purpose of stressing the Ionian as a source of literature inspiration.
The event Ionian Inspires held on Wednesday 12th November at a central London club, with the participation of significant figures from
the British intellectual world, together with representatives of the British media.
In the evening of 10th November 2009 was revealed the long history between Cricket and the Ionian Islands, which goes back in 1823.
An exceptional event which took place in the home of cricket, the prestigious Long Room of the Marylebone Cricket Club in the
historic setting of Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
The aim of the event was the celebration of the cultural diversity existing in Corfu and to present the programme of the International
Cricket Festival, which intends to bring together cricketers across continents, countries and communities in this historical and magical place.
Last year Ionian Inspired Cricket, this year Ionian Inspires the Return…to where it all began.
Many goals achieved already and the International Cricket Festival took its place amongst the
best sports event in the Ionian Islands. On Wednesday the 10th November 2010 exceptional guests
arrived from all over the world to support the big idea.
It was announced the open invitation to young people to visit Greece, to follow the footsteps of
Odysseus and take a life journey… to where it all began.
